Rowan Atkinson, the British actor known for his role as Mr. Bean, has arrived in Hungary to play the fictional French detective Maigret in a major two-part television adaptation of French writer Georges Simenon’s Maigret novels, commissioned by the British broadcaster ITV. The episodes are to be produced by UK-based Ealing Studios and Maigret Productions.

Budapest’s annual Jewish Cultural Festival will begin on Sunday and run for a week with concerts, theatre performances and film screenings. The biggest concerts will be held at the Great synagogue on Dohány utca, while theatre productions, concerts and film screenings will take place at the Goldmark Hall and the Rumbach utca synagogue.

The Mr. Bean actor, who celebrated his fiftieth birthday this year, will play the fictional French detective Maigret at undisclosed shooting locations in Hungary which will be meant to resemble 1950s Paris.
