Zsolt László Szabó, head of state media manager MTVA, yesterday reported the weekend assault on M1 newsreader Miklós Borsa to Balatonfüred police. An unidentified man physically attacked Borsa in Balatonfüred on Saturday after confirming that he was the face of M1 news, saying “tell lies now”.

A news anchor of public news channel M1 was attacked and beaten up at the lakeside resort of Balatonfüred, in western Hungary, public news channel M1 reported on Tuesday. The attackers first asked Miklós Borsa if he was a news reader, then assaulted him, shouting “you can lie now!” Borsa is “relatively well”, but is not fit to work, M1 said.

The director-general of Hungary’s immigration office said they received more than 33,000 applications for asylum in the first three months of 2015. An increase in the number of applications began first in 2013 and the trend is expected to continue this year, Zsuzsanna Végh told public TV channel M1.
