Public TV Declines in Hungary, MTVA Losses Exceed HUF 5 Billion on Budget of HUF 125 Billion
MTVA realised a Ft 4.6 billion loss last year, having received more than Ft 100 billion in state funding, the state media manager reported.

State funding through various channels amounted to Ft 109 billion last year. Other revenues and Ft 5 billion in commercial revenues raised the total income to Ft 127 billion.

The six public TV stations together accounted for 9.4% of the time spent watching television in Hungary, a decline of 13.8% from a year earlier.

News channel M1 attracted audience shares of 2.7% for a full day and 1.9% in prime time, down by 10% and 5% respectively, compared to the previous year.

The government had set aside Ft 142 billion for MTVA this year, of which Ft 36 billion was paid in the first quarter.
