In 2013, we had the opportunity to hear Haydn‘s oratorio The Seasons with Helmuth Rilling, while on the first day of 2014 the work will be presented by another world-renowned conductor in the shape of René Jacobs.

The 16th annual Hungarian Jewish Summer Festival is currently being held in Budapest between 25 August and 2 September and offers various programs introducing Jewish culture. The festival is the largest of its kind in Europe and this year the Prime Minister’s Office is sponsoring the event with 58 million forints.

The General Assembly of the Budapest Philharmonic Society - the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera - elected internationally acclaimed conductor Pinchas Steinberg Chief Conductor and President of the orchestra on 5 February 2013. Steinberg will take over in February 2014.

It has become a tradition in the course of the Budapest music competitions to organize every fith year an international violin competition named after the world-famous Hungarian violinist József Szigeti.
