The National Assembly has passed a law intended to keep fake parties away from the 2018 election, reports Magyar Nemzet. The modification of the law on party financing drafted by Fidesz MPs Gergely Gulyás and Róbert Répássy was accepted with 184 yes and two no votes. All four Democratic Coalition MPs absented themselves from the vote.

Hungary Asks EU To Raise VAT Ceiling

Hungary is asking for the European Union’s approval to raise the VAT turnover threshold for small businesses, Economy Minister Mihály Varga told the state news channel M1. Currently companies reporting less than Ft 8 million are exempt from VAT registration, which the government wants to increase to Ft 12 million from January 1, 2019.

The statements were reported in the media because they marked a significant break with Jobbik’s previously espoused anti-homosexual positions.
