The 'National Cheese Contest of European Nations' was organised for the first time in Hungary by SZEGA Foods, in their new ‘Covent Garden’ style delicatessen, in the basement area of Budagyöngye shopping mall. Guests could subsequently taste the cheeses during the wine festival too.

I was intrigued to find out exactly what street food was on offer this weekend, in downtown Pest, at the historic Hold Street covered market hall. To my surprise, so were many more, who gravitated to this very popular occasion. Held in the elevated part of the market, you could meander around and take your pick at the many different foods and drinks on offer.

On a lovely sunny afternoon in Buda, we went along to the Rosalia Rosé wine festival. In “Gesztenyés kert” and on the terrace of the chic Larus Restaurant, a wide variety of wines, red, white and especially rosés, was waiting for wine-lovers. They ranged from “natural”, ice, bio to more quality mainstream.

The Budapest Soup Festival (Budai Levesfesztivál) was organized for the first time. This week a small group of guys – a couple of expats (our Hungarian wives said we could go) and a local bloke – checked-out the Hooters restaurant at Liszt Ferenc tér. We weren't quite sure what to expect, as it turned out we had a very decent time. New Checks On Bars In Heritage Sites In Budapest

Parliament passed an amendment submitted by Fifth District mayor and Fidesz MP Antal Rogán and others on Monday under which police must review permits annually for keeping bars open at night in Unesco World Heritage locations.

Construction is complete on the 7800 square foot unit, spread over three levels, in downtown Budapest. Alex Hemingway, CEO of Crown Restaurants and boss of the brand in Hungary and other parts of Europe, stated, "We are confident the unique Hooters experience will be a success in Budapest".
