President János Áder has returned a recent law that sought to restrict political advertisements to parliament for re-consideration. The legislation, passed with a simple majority on Wednesday, was part of a government bill which sought to prevent all political advertisements on billboards outside of the official campaign period.

Top Court Annuls Legal Provisions On National Security Vetting Of Judges

The Constitutional Court on Tuesday ruled unconstitutional and annulled certain legal provisions requiring the national security vetting of judges. The court’s ruling comes after Péter Darák, the head of the Kúria, Hungary’s supreme court, requested that the court declare provisions of the law on national security agencies pertaining to the vetting of judges unconstitutional and annul them.

Parliament voted to dock the salaries of 10 Socialist and 1 independent lawmaker on Tuesday. The ruling, proposed by house speaker László Kövér and voted for exclusively by lawmakers of the governing parties, docks one third, 249,292 forints (EUR 810), of the monthly salary of independent lawmaker Tímea Szabó.

There is a shortage of general practitioner physicians in Hungary, according to economics daily Világgazdaság. The paper reports that the biggest shortages are in Nógrád, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Békés, Somogy and Tolna counties — which just happen to be among the poorest counties in Hungary (and the EU).
