According to the numbers, the largest pro-government media outlets lost 54 cases last year – Magyar Nemzet was the record holder with 20, Origo was second with 13. By contrast, Átlátszó did not lose a single lawsuit last year.

Central European think-tank, Visegrad Insight, asked the question: ‘what would happen if Russia were to attack Ukraine?’. In a collection of reports, they look at the possible reactions of nine Central and Eastern European countries, including Hungary. According to the study, Hungary would not provide armed assistance to Ukraine, but Budapest would not veto any sanctions against Russia either.

Hungary has been ordered by FIFA to play its next World Cup qualifier behind closed doors following the racist abuse of England’s players by Hungarian fans at a match earlier this month. Hungary has also been issued a second stadium ban that will be suspended for a period of two years, while the Hungarian Football Association (MLSZ) has been fined 200,000 Swiss francs, FIFA said on Tuesday.
