Construction Sector Output Declines By 17.6% In July

Output of Hungary’s construction industry dropped by an annual 17.6% in July, the Central Statistical Office said. The decline followed twelve-month decreases of 16.2% in June and 25.8% in May. Output of the buildings segment rose by 1.0%, mainly on the construction of industrial buildings, but also lifted by the construction of schools and sports facilities.

The number of students attending church schools in Hungary has almost doubled over the past six years, the daily Magyar Nemzet reported. The number has risen from around 112,000 to over 200,000. At the same time, the number of church schools has risen by around two-thirds.

The head of the PSZ teachers’ trade union has warned that the new school year “will not be smooth”. Piroska Galló said government communications suggesting all the right conditions were in place for schools to start the year successfully were misleading.

September will see the start of new kinds of vocational training in Hungary, Economy Minister Mihály Varga said in Kecskemét, in central Hungary. Opening the new school year at a youth centre in the city, Varga noted that both vocational high schools and vocational colleges will offer matriculation exams, so there is a possibility that students can continue into higher education.
