Lawmakers approved amendments to the 2016 budget act raising both revenue and expenditures by 421.7 billion forints (EUR 1.4bn). The amendments were passed with 121 votes in favour and 63 against. The MPs raised the revenue target from 15,800.4 billion forints to 16,222.1 billion forints. They increased the expenditure target from 16,562.0 billion forints to 16,983.7 billion forints.

The organisers of the movement expressed their anger in an invitation to the demonstration on Facebook over what they see as the government “totally nationalising schools and destroying education”. The demonstrators will “grade” their own performance as well as the government’s, the movement added.

Poverty risk indicators for the Roma population have significantly declined in the past 2-3 years, an official at the human resources ministry said. The proportion of Roma experiencing income poverty fell from 68% to 63% while in-work poverty rate fell from 43% to 27% and the deprivation rate from 78% to 68%, state secretary Károly Czibere told a meeting of the Roma Coordination Council.
