Anti-corruption protests took place across Hungary today. In Budapest the demonstration started in front of the Eiffel Palace Office Building near the Nyugati (western) train station. A few minutes before the scheduled start of the protest it seemed as though police and members of the press would outnumber the protesters.

The economy ministry’s draft for next year’s state budget will be submitted to the government at its next session, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told public radio. Orbán said that he expected the budget to be passed by parliament before the end of the spring session, adding that an early budget would increase predictability.

Appeals have been submitted to the National Election Committee (NVB) over its decision to approve two questions for a national referendum, the National Election Office confirmed MTI’s information. The director-general of Hungary’s immigration office said they received more than 33,000 applications for asylum in the first three months of 2015. An increase in the number of applications began first in 2013 and the trend is expected to continue this year, Zsuzsanna Végh told public TV channel M1.

The National Tobacco Sales Nonprofit Company (NDN) announced another tender for tobacco sales concessions. The tender is the sixth called for concessions since Hungary introduced a state monopoly on retail tobacco sales in July of 2013. It is for concessions in 490 communities.
