Family Afternoon Event with UNICEF Hungary on Sunday
On June 1, International Children's Day, UNICEF Hungary is hosting a playful afternoon for families at the Kastner Kommunity Space in Budapest.

The event was dreamed up by the organization's young ambassadors and they will also be the hosts, the organisation announced this Monday.

The announcement highlighted that this day will be a unique opportunity for the public to see the special doll collection of the storyteller Margit Altay (1882-1972), author of numerous Pöttyös books and novels for girls.

The writer, who was also a passionate collector, brought home more than a hundred dolls dressed in folk costumes from distant parts of the world during her life. After her death, this unique material came under the care of UNICEF Hungary.

The dolls - the most special pieces of which were presented in the picture book My Dolls - have never been exhibited before, but on June 1st, you can hold them in your hands and their stories will come to life in the narration of UNICEF's young ambassadors.

At the end of the event, the special dolls will become "adoptable": if someone commits to supporting the organization's child-saving mission with a regular donation of a few thousand forints per month, they can choose one of the exhibited pieces to be theirs. In this way, the collection will live on in the community of UNICEF supporters, the statement said.

The Sunday program starts at 12:00 noon, and until 5:00pm, in addition to the exhibition, children can also enjoy creative, playful activities: the younger ones can listen to a story, do a puzzle and draw together, while the older ones can learn about children's rights and UNICEF's work in Hungary and internationally.

A roundtable discussion will also be held between 6 and 7 pm. The discussion, titled 'What does happiness mean in childhood and adulthood?', will be attended by story therapist Annamária Kádár, UNICEF Hungary Goodwill Ambassador Kriszta D. Tóth, UNICEF Hungary Goodwill Ambassador, Viola Szlankó, UNICEF Hungary Child Protection Director, and UNICEF Hungary Young Ambassadors, moderated by Antónia Mészáros, UNICEF Hungary Executive Director.

In addition to the multifaceted approach to happiness, the discussion will also discuss how parents can support their child's personality development, what expectations help or hinder young people, and how every child can find their own path according to their own abilities and desires.

The UNICEF young ambassadors will share their own thoughts on the topic with the audience, but they will also talk about what volunteering means to them and the work they do within UNICEF.

The event is also a good opportunity for young people between the ages of 14 and 21 who are interested in the UNICEF Young Ambassador Program: they can meet the team members at the event and submit their applications for this year's young ambassador competition by June 10, the statement emphasised.
