Buddha Statue Removed From Hungarian Museum

A Buddha statue found to contain the 900-year-old mummified remains of a monk has been withdrawn by its owner from an exhibit in the Hungarian National History Museum, the museum’s spokeswoman said. Mónika Kiss-Stefán confirmed that the owner had the statue removed, without explanation, on Friday.

These acts add a strong international character to the biggest summer open-air event of Eastern Hungary, held in Debrecen, the second city of the country. Rembrandt and the Painting of the Dutch Golden Age, a large-scale exhibition to run in the Museum of Fine Arts from 1 November surveys the period of 17th-century Dutch art, one of the golden ages of European culture. The exhibition is built around Rembrandt, the greatest master of the period, by whom 20 masterpieces will be on display.
