Having a free Sunday morning on my hands, a friend and I visited the Szimplakert Haztaji Market. The great ambiance was still there. Almost every seller had samples out to try, whether it be szorp, jam, baked goods, spreads or cheese. All the sellers were friendly, chatty, and proud of their products.

Xpat Opinion: Shoes On The Danube In Budapest
- 11 Sep 2012 9:00 AM
- getting around
If you listen to anyone talking about the Second World War, and more specifically, the systematic extermination of Europe's Jewish population, you will more-likely-than-not hear some variation on the phrase ‘Lest we forget.’ The poignant Jewish memorial on the Pest bank of the Danube is so discreet that you're unlikely to spot it. If you try to find it from the direction of the Parliament, you ...

Sunday morning Lydia and I explored the newish Szimplakert Haztaji Piac (open Sunday 9-14, Kazinczy u. 14, VII ker). I cannot stand the crowds at night at Szimpla, so I tend to avoid it. However, during the day it is a much different and mellow place to hang out. They recently started a croft or market garden on Sundays. There is another one popping up at Margit u. off of Margit Krt.
