Police have closed down a bar in downtown Budapest and arrested four people for overcharging tourists. During an operation held on Thursday night, police caught employees of the bar in the fifth district red-handed as they billed 170,000 forints (EUR 550) for two bottles of champagne and two glasses of spirits to a Japanese citizen, the police website said on Friday.

The 21st Budapest Pride LGBTQ festival got under way on Friday evening. The events which will conclude on July 3 are organised by the Szivárvány Misszió (Rainbow Mission). The organisation’s head, Szilvia Nagy, called for political discourse not to be abusive, humiliating or degrading. She also expressed hope that the government spokesman would acknowledge Pride week.

The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has nominated Hungarian director László Nemes Jeles’s film Son of Saul for an Academy Award in the best foreignlanguage film category. Son of Saul was recently awarded a Golden Globe, following several international awards including the Grand Prix at the 68th Cannes Film Festival last year.
