A heat alert ordered by Hungary’s health authority (ANTSZ) has been prolonged by a day and raised from level two to the highest level three. The heat warning issued earlier has been extended to until midnight on Tuesday. On Friday, the heat will further intensify and the daytime mean temperature is expected to rise to above 27 C. In the following few days, dry weather is expected.

Taxi-hailing service Uber will continue to operate in Budapest, even after a new decree requiring its drivers to be licenced comes into force on Thursday, managing director Zoltán Fekete said in a statement. The number of visitors to Hungarian casinos rose sharply after a ban on slot machines in pubs was introduced in the autumn of 2012, data in a written response to a query by an MP show. In the letter from state secretary András Tállai responding to the query by MP István Ikotity of green party LMP, data show visitor numbers to Hungarian casinos rose from 205,000 in 2011 to 300,000 in 2012.
