Being born and raised in Southern California I am often asked, what are you doing here in Budapest? The question is not so much of what bothers me rather the tone from the interrogator; one that implies that California is a dreamland and Budapest is, well, the opposite. I couldn’t disagree with this sentiment more.

For All Ears Kate McIntosh sets up the stage as an improvised adhoc laboratory for a series of unusual recordings and acoustic experiments, using everyday objects and materials. Chairs are dragged, paper is torn, glasses are toppled. Sounds are gathered, recorded and played back – the action of one part of the performance providing soundtrack, background or atmosphere for another.

One of the very special events of the CAFe Budapest Festival of Contemporary Arts will be the concert by the legendary Australian jazz-rock-ambient trio, the Necks. Their minimalism built up into monumental forms from very refined elements will be anticipated by the Hungarian Jü featuring a great saxophone player from Norway, Kjetil Møster, who they will present their first album together with.
