Pianist Károly Gáspár is one of the key figures in Hungarian jazz life. They play fresh and forward-looking music with their trio, which also respects the mainstream roots of jazz.
After his Fonogram Award-winning album The Outsider (2017) he released Salvation in 2019, with his own compositions ,one song by Jenő Horváth and a transcript of some of Charlie Haden's compositions.
This year, the trio released their third album, Philosophy, on Tom Tom Records, where – following the musical direction of the previous two records – we can hear romantic and aesthetic music spiced with the effects of classical music.
In addition to six Károly Gáspár compositions, two jazz standards are on the disc, I Fall in Love Too Easily and Emily. Balázs Neumann writes about the title song: "The theme of Philosophy is a very complex composition, which reveals a lot about Károly Gáspár's musical philosophy and creed.
It’s interesting to observe where you can hear the piano alone and where he ask for the help of two of your great fellow musicians. Károly loves »classical-harmonization«, including descending bass, and integrates it very tastefully into jazz ”.
At the concert, the record musical material will be heard live for the first time, with Károly Gáspár's musician friends, bassist Balázs Horváth and drummer Bendegúz Varga on stage.
