'Things We May Never Know', Before Exhibition Gallery, Until 30 April
"Kiállítás Előtt Galéria (Before Exhibition Gallery) is proud to present 'Things We May Never Know', the first solo show of the contemporary photography artist, Ting-Ting Cheng, running through 30 April.

In ‘Things We May Never Know’, Cheng combines texts with objects that belong to international students from Asia to explore the isolation of being an outsider in a foreign land. In the images, objects are on the focus, compared to the owner which only shows part of their body in obscure. The text is written in the language of the owner to describe the relationship between the object and the person, and it is untranslated to force the owner’s position upon the viewer. As the title suggests, what we can see is only part of them, and there is always something in different culture is which we will never know.

Cheng’s practices focus on the relationship between objects, places and people’s emotion toward them. She has explored various social issues previously, such as banality in everyday life, alienation of international students and commodity fetishism. She is also interested in adopting the combination of images with texts, exploring on how they anchor and relay to each other.

Ting-Ting Cheng was born in Taiwan and graduated from MA Photographic Studies in University of Westminster, London. She has exhibited and received a number of photography awards internationally, including New York, London, Berlin and Taipei. She is recently selected for the juried winner 2010 on Artslant, and going to have her solo show in Taipei Fine Art Museum in 2011.

Exhibition is by appointment only so contact Krisztina Fazekas +36 30 5098896.
