CIA Spy Drama 'Ponies' to Start Production in Budapest Soon
The upcoming espionage thriller series Ponies is gearing up for production in Budapest, with filming set to begin in February 2025. Produced by Jessica Rhoades, Alison Mo Massey, and Katherine Bridle under Pacesetter Productions, the series will debut on Peacock on August 29, 2024.

This intriguing Cold War drama stars Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) and Haley Lu Richardson (“The White Lotus”), under the direction of Susanna Fogel and showrunner David Iserson.

Set in Moscow in 1977, “Ponies” follows two unlikely CIA operatives. Bea (Clarke) is a Russian-speaking intellectual and the daughter of Soviet immigrants, while her counterpart, Twila (Richardson), is a fearless small-town girl with a bold personality.

Both women are drawn into a dangerous web of espionage after the mysterious deaths of their husbands in the USSR. Together, they uncover a sprawling Cold War conspiracy while seeking justice for their losses.

The production’s Budapest location is fitting for its historical ties and architectural similarities to Cold War-era Moscow. With Universal Television backing the series, “Ponies” is poised to deliver a richly detailed and suspenseful narrative.

As excitement builds for the February start, fans of spy dramas and Cold War intrigue have much to look forward to.
