Budapest Pálinka Festival, Városháza Park, 8 - 9 May
- 7 May 2010 12:00 PM
This year the fourth edition of the Budapest Palinka Festival will be held Between the 6-9th of May. The festival is the venue where the finest spirits will be showcased, made by the very best of the major Hungarian Palinka destillers. Also present will be some of the most unique smaller, family run businesses with traditional flavours, award winning and limited edition products.
If you are interested in the world of Palinka making and the mastery of the distillers or simply enjoy a good conversation next to an excellent drink, than this is the place for you! With more than 300 different produce of Palinka, the offer is unparalleled. Even though the so called Hungarian Palinka Law strictly describes what is to be called 'Palinka', the organisers did not wish to limit the products on offer only to those bevarages that satisfy the legal wording. Instead they opted for a broader interpretation of the palinka and included all bevareges that gain their alcohol content by the distillation of fruits.
This means that those famous and popular destillates will also be present that have honey as an added content along with national as well as foreign made brandy specialties.
"We do not fully understand why those beverages that gain their alcohol content from fruit destillates and only have pure honey as a further ingredient can not be named Honey Palinka. The distillery of these products has a centuries old history and the relevant bill goes against this tradition and in our opinion slows the spread of this great produce. These beverages do not dent the reputation of the palinka, on the contrary, they allow it to reach more people.
This idea is supported by market data collected in recent years and the fact that last year's choice of the festival's public was such a destillate. We believe that the trade misleads itself when it claims that these products are competitors of the Palinka, when in reality its real rivals are those goods that are made to appear like the Palinka, are bottled like the Palinka with fruit decorations on the labels, but consist of industrially produced alcohol and artificial aromas.
These fakes can still be found on store shelves and continue to decieve the consumer." explains Róbert Maros, the man behind the idea of the festival, managing Besides the abundant Palinka offering the festival also boasts a rich musical programme. During its four days numerous established and young Hungarian performers will make this event even more attractive.
Apart from the outstanding palinkas and great music the festival is also a gastronomical experience. Susages, cheese and coffee specialities, barbecue, grills and various fruit jams will complete this vivid event.
So, we would like to send you our warm invitation, and are hoping to welcome you at the Budapest Palinka Festival!"
