Xpat Watch: Canada Day 2010 In Budapest
This year’s celebration of Canada’s 143rd birthday joined by the 101st anniversary of the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs as well as the 46th anniversary of Canada-Hungary diplomatic relations was held in the atmospheric garden of the Canadian ambassador, Mr. Pierre Guimond on 30 June.

The beautiful weather made it an exceptionally pleasant afternoon to greet old acquaintances and meet new ones. After a welcome speech in a mixture of three languages, the Canadian and Hungarian national anthem was sung by opera singer Mr. Balázs Fellegi.

To ensure the guests’ total enjoyment, the Skylark group played subtle tunes while kebabs, chips and onion rings were served. The tasty bites were washed down with a glass of Hungária champagne or a delicious gin cocktail.

It was the perfect summer evening to enjoy cool refreshments and gave Mr. Guimond an opportunity to say thanks to all his staff and goodbye to everyone as he is moving back to Canada with his wife, Mrs. Louise Parent, shortly.
