Radio Station Contacts Kidnapped Hungarian Peacekeeper
"Darfur-based radio station Dabanga has contacted the Hungarian UN peacekeeper who was kidnapped in Sudan last Thursday. The hostage, who introduced himself as István Papp, told the radio station that he is being held in a place that resembles a camp where about 100 uniformed people are staying. He could not identify the place.

Papp acted in a normal manner but at times fought back tears as he said that he is afraid his kidnappers might harm him. He said he has been unable to speak with the joint UN and African Union peacekeeping force that employs him since his abduction.

Papp, a 55-year-old retired lieutenant colonel, also told the radio station that he suspects there is a local pyramid scheme behind his kidnapping, adding that several members of the ruling party may be involved.

Papp was engaged in helping to disarm child soldiers and worked in Darfur as a freelance employee, not for the Defence Ministry.

Hungarian Anti-Terrorist Centre personnel have arrived in Sudan to help find the hostage, Népszabadság reports.

The Dabanga radio station, run by the Dutch Press Now group, has been broadcasting in Darfur since November, 2008."
