Margaret Bridge In Budapest Opened To Traffic
Reconstruction of Margit Bridge has finally reached the next stage: from the evening of 15 November the bridge will be open again. However, renovation procedures will continue until next summer. Thus, further restrictions will be introduced involving car traffic.

Monday morning authorities examined the current condition of the bridge and experts decided that the present state is appropriate for vehicles to use the bridge again. During the recent months, all together 65 different authorities’ permission was necessary to be able to open the bridge. From Monday evening, cars and other vehicles could drive on four traffic lanes of the bridge.

However, further restrictions will be introduced until the end of the reconstruction. For example, two lanes will be occasionally closed for traffic and tram lines could not be used until 10 December by other vehicles, apart from trams. Moreover, speed limit is permanently applied.

On 21 and 22 November only two traffic lanes will be open at the upper wharf of Buda, due to the reconstructions of the bridge. The renovation of Margit Bridge started last year, on 21 August and should have ended in August, 2010 but the re-opening was delayed for December. Finally, 15 of November was declared to open the bridge for traffic.
