Strasbourg Court Rules Against Restrictions On Midwifes In Hungary
"The European Court of Human Rights condemned Hungary's ban on assisting home births in a ruling issued yesterday. The Strasbourg court ruled that Hungary had violated the rights of Anna Ternovszky, as she was unable to give birth at home.

Ternovszky was pregnant when she appealed to the Strasbourg Court on December 15 last year, as she planned a home delivery but had no opportunity for that, as regulations discourage health workers from assisting home births.

A government decree punishes those health workers who assist in home births.

The court awarded €1,250 in trial costs to the plaintiff. The ruling is open to appeal."
