Enthusiastic University Students Work For The Future Of Homeless People In Budapest
"In Budapest, a group of university students set a noble goal: they would like to help homeless people to return to the society by the means of a special project. Their program’s bottom line is to give something to live for those, who have lost their job, their family and not able to get on in life. These young adults met Zsolt Erőss for a coffee to talk about the role of motivation and starting over.

„ “In the college we talked a lot about the social responsibility. We couldn’t accept the fact, that there are so many people who cannot spend the evening at home and have to fight for their life every day. How and why did they got into this tough situation? We thoroughly analyzed this issue.” – said Kinga Horvath, one of the inventor of the project named The Homless for the Homless.

These thoughts were the beginning, and now the dream of the students of Matthias Corvinus came true by the NESCFE 3in1 Effect campaign. They got 1 million HUF from the company to reach their goal and take care of homeless people. Last year they organized a ”talent show” for the homeless, and they realized how many talented people, even artist have become “street people”, and they want to work and prove their abilities, when they have a chance.

Now these students want to help with different means from career management to communication and IT courses. They prepare the homeless for job interviews, provide them clean clothes, teach them how to write a perfect CV, and show them how to use the computer. Above all The Homeless For The Homeless project gives a chance to the homeless to transmit these useful knowledge among each other.

A homeless who has already attained the brand new pieces of information become a mentor at the same time, who is able to help other people living in the street. The main goal of the leaders of the project is to assist a successful integration by developing skills. The project is really successful, as some of those, who had finished the courses in March, has already have a part-time job.

Recently, Zsolt Erőss, alpinist, gave a few pieces of advice supporting the students. They talked about the importance of purposes, role models and different methods of processing failures. After several successes, 2 years ago the alpinist’s right leg had to amputated, which was a breaking point in his career, but he said: ”we have to step forward and define new goals. We have to learn from our mistakes, because life goes on.”
