Hungarian Cabinet To Eliminate 500 Hospital Beds
"The cabinet will eliminate over 500 hospital beds in the three Budapest health regions alone, Népszava reports, citing draft documents. The survival of the Szent Imre and Péterfy Sándor hospitals will be in jeopardy while the Károlyi Sándor Hospital will be “gutted”.

The health state secretariat has sent information on the changes to the affected hospital directors, Magyar Nemzet writes.

The number of beds will be reduced by 271 in the north Hungarian region, by 97 in the south and central region and by 177 in the western and central region.

Socialist health politician Szófia Havas accused the cabinet of planning critical and professionally unjustifiable changes, adding that health care services will considerably deteriorate in Budapest and the adjoining counties."
