Slam Poetry Budapest, Last Thursday Of Month, Mika Tivadar
"After a year of absence, Slam Poetry Budapest (SPB) is back to verbally slap the audience on a monthly basis. Poetry Slams are not foreign to the Hungarian audience, as 6 years ago the first Poetry Slam was organized by Kunsthalle Budapest (Műcsarnok) that was advertised as the epic clash of rappers and poets. As of 2008, poetry enthusiasts have been gathering every month in the basement of the neighboring Kőleves (Stonesoup Restobar).

The goals of the organizers and regular performers of this blend of poetry, rap and theater, is to provide an opportunity for brave aspirants to test their skills at the Open Mic and even prove their worth in the Contest. A unique aspect of the club happening is that there are regular Q&A sessions with invited guests, usually connected to video screenings.

This evening the public can view the premier of a short film about the Hungarian poetry slam scene. The video entitled Halfway between Hofi and Latinovits was made as an examination film by Andrea Váczy and András Mezőfi for the Komlós Education Studio (KOS) school for journalists.

We are also honored to welcome first time guests: the Central European University’s (CEU) Blank Pages Society, a group of truly impassioned literati who have also promised to grab the mic and show us what they got.

All of this can be enjoyed in the company of illustrious poets, actors, rappers, including former slam winners and finalists such as Daniel Brownwood, Endre Szkárosi, Indiana, Kám4, Kövi, Márton Simon, Márton Szabó, Orizatriznyák, Ponza, Saiid, Színész ("Actor") Bob, Újonc and many more. The event will be hosted by the incomparable pair Kati „Hugee” Mavrák and Péter „Zeek” Németh.

Sign-up for the Open Mic and the Contest is between 6-8pm at the venue on the day of the event.

There is no theme this time, so bring your best pieces (only your own poems!).

Grand prize: 30.000.- HUF

First three winners automatically get a chance to take part in SPB’s sister-event Each1Teach1 Slam (invitiational) to be held every second Friday of each month (presented by D-Link @ Alcatraz Budapest).

And towards the end of the night we'll be rocking to the beats of DJ Chi Korea, whose regular slam program called Sztriit Noiz on Tilos Radio is a must every second Monday night.

If you're tired of mundane poetry readings and have a hankering for insightful, thought-provoking and/or comical drama, if you're ink slinger yourself and feel the urge to perform, you can't miss it. In summary, every last Thursday of each month we perform free verse, talk about serious and light issues, compete, drink and mingle.

18.00 SPB Club Opening

19.30 Q&A (interactive talk with slammers and the audience)
