Hundreds Protest Against New Taxes, “Cavalier” Spending In Budapest District
- 16 Apr 2012 8:00 AM
The demonstrators, organised by LMP, the Socialist Party and the Democratic Coalition, said residents of the district are afflicted with new taxes while the district leaders spend money on operetta galas and tens of millions of forints are spent on ads in right-wing newspapers.
Esztergom mayor Éva Tétényi, an independent, also addressed the crowd. She said she was not there to oppose any parties or people, but for a cause, notably for people to finally open their eyes.
Papcsák later issued a statement declaring it outrageous that those persons and parties and other organisations who had truly looted Zugló speak of ransacking the district.
He said a communal tax is needed so that residents are not at a disadvantage as regards community services, despite the difficult finances."
