Last-Ditch Lobbying By Mobile Operators In Hungary
Mobile phone operators have asked lawmakers to consider recommendations on the telephone tax before Parliament votes on Friday. The tax does not serve Hungary’s interest and places a disproportional burden on telecom companies, which have been paying the crisis tax since 2010, wrote Vodafone, T-Mobile and Pannon in a joint statement.

The companies are lobbying to extend the tax to cable and satellite broadcasters, on the basis of equal treatment, Napi Gazdasag wrote.

If the industry version is approved, retail and business clients would pay less tax, Ft 400 and Ft 1,400 respectively, compared with a maximum Ft 700 and Ft 2,500 respectively per month in the proposal Parliament is expected to approve.

The mobile operators recommended that roaming services be exempt from the tax.
