Hungarian TV Reporter Falsified Jewish Story, Quits
RTL Klub presented the wrong man as the victim of an anti-Semitic attack on Tuesday. RTL Klub reported that a man around 70 was beaten by young people last Friday because he is Jewish. The report, made by András Novák, failed to state accurately that it was a 58-year-old man attacked, not last Friday but about 45 days ago on Kertész utca.

Chief rabbi Róbert Frőhlich said he had clarified these inaccuracies when the interview was taped with the reporter and “yet something else was aired.” The channel made an apology and reported Wednesday evening that the incident occurred on May 4 and its victim was a man around 60 and not the elderly man who was presented as an “illustration” on Tuesday.

RTL Klub news director Róbert Kotroczó said an internal inquiry was underway as the reporter seriously violated regulations. After the internal inquiry Novák realised that he had committed several serious professional mistakes and left the channel by mutual consent.
