Invitation: 'Alexandrov Academic Ensemble', Budapest Sportaréna, 5 June
"The Alexandrov Ensemble proves that an unquestionable artistic performance is able to survive the most terrible difficulties and changes in history. The ensemble, which was founded in the one-time Soviet Union, has become one of the most famous characteristisc of Russia.

If we ask somebody somewhere in the world to list the first five things which come to their mind about Russia, the Alexandrov Ensemble will probably be on the list next to the Hermitage and Red Square. In order to reach this status, the deservedly popular ensemble had to tour around the whole world.

The Alexandrov Ensemble had the time for this, because, since their foundation in 1928, they have been spreading the feeling, power and every characteristic of the Red Army through their music. At the beginning the choir had only twelve members, but this number increased to nearly three hundred by the middle of the 1930's. For today the Alexandrov Ensemble has become one of the most famous male choirs in the world, which unites trained singing techniques with a certain emotionality, which roots in Russian folk music.

But nowadays we cannot only speak about a simple choir: dancers of equally high quality and a group of accompanying musicians are also important parts of the performance. Similarly to the singers, they are also influenced by their homeland’s folk traditions. What is more, the ensemble plays almost exclusively musical instruments of Russian origin: the choir, the members of which singing in fancy Russian uniform, is accompanied on woodwind instruments, balalaikas and piano accordions."
