Taken together, the situation is that now Europe is about as hot as Africa, traditionally considered as the hottest continent. In South Africa, Pretoria it's 19, but further north in Sudan, Khartoum is 34, in Somalia, Mogadishu is only 24, and in Libya, Tripoli was 36 degrees at the time of the report.
The heat record here was smashed on Monday in Budapest with a high of 37.3C recorded. The peak temperature in the capital prior to that was measured as 35.7C on the same day in 1950. The Hungarian national record was 38C in Orosháza in 1905, this was also shattered on Monday with 38.4C recorded in Túrkeve. Weather forecasts suggest scattered thunder storms for later today or tomorrow, lets see.
