Golden Team Football Player Kocsis’ Ashes Returning To Hungary
The ashes of 1950s Golden Team football player Sándor Kocsis will be returned from Barcelona and laid to rest at the Szent István Basilica on September 21. His ashes will be laid next to those of his team-mate and good friend Ferenc Puskás.

The idea of bringing home Kocsis’s ashes came from Magyar Nemzet sports journalist Attila Ballai.

Born in Budapest in 1929, Kocsis played for the Honvéd club along with most of the Hungarian national team of the early 1950s.

After 1956 he played for Barcelona for several years, alongside fellow Hungarians Zoltán Czibor and László Kubala.

He died in Barcelona on July 22, 1979, while suffering from stomach cancer.

He scored 75 goals in 68 appearances for the Hungarian national team, still a record.

Several Barcelona stars will attend the reburial, Magyar Nemzet reports. Club president Sandro Rosell as well as Kocsis’ former team-mate Luis Suarez will also be present.
