Hungarian Gov’t To Encourage Mobile Workers
The cabinet yesterday unveiled a programme to provide accommodation subsidies in an effort to improve labour mobility. Economy Ministry state secretary Sándor Czomba said subsidies will be available for a maximum of 18 months to those who relocate more than 100km to find work.

However, those whose salary is more than three times the minimum wage will not be eligible for the subsidies.

The amounts of support will be Ft 100,000 per month for the first six months, Ft 60,000 for the next six months and Ft 40,000 for the third six-month period.

These figures rise to Ft 150,000, Ft 90,000 and Ft 60,000 if two members of a family relocate together.

Recipients can apply for subsidies a second time, after a three-year interim.

The Socialists welcomed the idea but raised concerns about the feasibility of the programme.
