Two Gripen fighter jets from Kecskemét air base Thursday afternoon “intercepted” a Boeing 738-type passenger airliner from Turkey, the Defence Ministry announced. The airliner had not established radio contact while flying in Romanian air space, and thus NATO headquarters in Italy ordered an alfa alert for Hungarian fighter planes. The two Gripen fighters intercepted the Boeing within minutes and escorted it to the north-western border of Hungarian air space.
