Invitation: Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry Screening With English Subtitles, Atrium Film&Theatre Budapest

Since then, Ai’s critiques of China’s repressive regime have ranged from “perspective studies” - photographs of his raised middle finger in front of monuments such as Tiananmen Square - to memorials of the schoolchildren - over 5,000 of them who died in the shoddy government buildings crushed in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake. Against a backdrop of strict censorship, Ai has become an underground hero and champions through the internet, using his blog and Twitter to organize, inform and inspire.
Ai Weiwe: Never Sorry documents the celebrated artist’s activities over recent years, during which time the Chinese government authorities shut down his blog, physically attacked him, bulldozed his newly built studio and, in 2011, held him in secret detention for 81 days, making him China’s most famous missing person.
Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry is distributed by ‘hungariAnt’ (magyarhangya) in co-operation with ‘The Match Factory’ and ‘Media Mundus’ project. In this series of non-European niche films ‘hungariAnt’ is using unprecedented techniques to reach out to the audience.
