28 November – December 1 - Georg Büchner: Woyzeck
Music by Tom Waits
Directed by Tamás Ascher
The latest adaptation of Büchner's Woyzeck in Hungary by internationally acclaimed director Tamás Ascher, features the Tom Waits-version of the original play. Using Büchner's text and Waits' music, Ascher created a dark, tense and somewhat ambient atmosphere, where an ensemble of peculiar figures surround Woyzeck, the ill-fated barber. In the lead role, Tamás Keresztes is superb as Woyzeck, and his cast members also give equally impressive performances.
"Woyzeck's story cruel, painful and breaks your heart. Katona's version made it's texture full of different layers, opening spaces for various interpretations." - Civil Rádió
29 November, Thursday - Tersánszky-Grecsó: Gypsies (Cigányok)
Directed by: Gábor Máté
Katona's Gypsies is based on a series of killings committed against gypsy citizens in some Hungarian villages in 2008 and 2009. The play depicts two worlds: one, where gypsies and Hungarians used to be able live together peacefully, even if there were conflicts between them, and another world - nowadays -, where conflicts are escalated, and nobody seems to find, or even search for a solution.
"Mate’s 17-member ensemble is uniformly forceful." - Washington Post

Directed by Gábor Zsámbéki
Maxim Gorky's 1902 drama shows the everyday life of a Russian household, with a strong father-figure lording over his adult children, while a colorful group of peculiar guests and servants bring the tension even higher. Katona's Philistines directed by Gábor Zsámbéki, features an ensemble cast including Zoltán Bezerédi, Andrea Fullajtár, Gergely Kocsis, Gábor Máté and András Ötvös.
