Bajnai On IMF-Hungary Impasse
Hungary has failed to reach a loan agreement with the IMF and EU because those organisations intend to lend money to the Hungarian government to considerably change its policies, whereas the government wants funds so as to continue with its current policies, former prime minister Gordon Bajnai said on Friday.

Speaking at a Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) conference in Washington, he said an agreement with the IMF would reduce Hungary’s financing costs.

Bajnai, a senior adviser to the CSIS, stressed that IMF projects cannot solve the problems of individual countries but can give governments time to correct mistakes they have committed.
