Intercontinental Budapest Receives Developing People And Safe Hotel Awards
InterContinental Budapest has received this award this year because the hotel is the most passionate about its people and demonstrates its total commitment to employee development and career progression, helping great talent progress within their brand.

InterContinental Budapest prides itself on the development and career progression of its people. Its superb induction, training and development programmes have given many of its employees the opportunity to take their career to the next level.

The hotel takes its responsibilities seriously, placing a real emphasis on people development.
Newcomers are given a two-day induction, which includes a Room To Be Yourself folder, employee magazine, training documents and In The Know booklet. Leaders are given a one-day induction and training plan.

Recruitment of apprentices is also a key focus, and the hotel holds a Career Day for college students and works with three apprentice coordinators in food and beverages to schedule apprentice duties and keep records in students' booklets.

Employees are given every chance to train and grow, with tuition aids and cross functional training courses regularly on offer. Leaders offer their advice and expertise through the Career Club, explaining how they made it to their current position. The hotel also has a partnership with international schools, offering training for students from Finland, Sweden and England, as well as taking on local trainees and apprentices.

The Safe Hotel Award – awarded to the hotel that’s created a Safe Hotel through an outstanding programme of risk management.

Taking a holistic approach to safety, InterContinental Budapest has a culture and mindset of safety first across all its employees and third party suppliers.

InterContinental Budapest has been chosen since, strong systems such as automatic fire detection alarms throughout the hotel, smoke extractors in the corridors, sprinkler protection and fire-protected exit routes give the InterContinental Budapest excellent safety credentials.

This infrastructure is supported by an extensive staff training system, including quarterly nightshift training, weekly push button and voice alarm testing, bi-annual fire drills and table-top training for senior management. It updates its health and safety policy every year, with continuous risk assessment updates in areas such as water, fire, bomb, nightshift, and pregnant workers. All outside contractors are expected to work to the high safe environment standards set out by the hotel.

In 2011, the hotel completely overhauled its water risk management, introducing a new chemical dosing system for the cooling towers and adjustments to the cooling towers to prevent and minimize potential legionella exposure. Its risk management system is second to none, with all controls, deficiencies and improvements logged in order to really reduce the number of possible risks and claims.
