Snow Creates Temporary Chaos In Hungary
Western Hungary was hit with 15-30cm of snow on Sunday and early Monday, while Budapest was blanketed in 6-10cm. Despite the heavy snow, no villages were cut off, Development Ministry state secretary for infrastructure Pál Völner confirmed to reporters in Budapest.

Some 500 snow-clearing machines were put into action, he said.

Budapest was practically one big traffic jam Monday morning, as buses, trains, cars, trucks and trams got stuck in the snow. Mayor István Tarlós declared that public transport be free of charge from 8.45 a.m. to midnight.

In the country’s only serious road accident, four people were injured when a bus fell on to its side after sliding into a roadside ditch on route 83 between Veszprém and Pápa.

The situation returned to normal by yesterday afternoon and all public transport services were running on schedule.
