EC Prepared To Enforce EU Law In Hungary
The European Commission will resort to all means at its disposal to enforce EU regulations, spokeswoman Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen told reporters in Brussels on Monday regarding the fourth amendment of Hungary’s Basic Law.

Ahrenkilde Hansen said the Commission has several instruments at its disposal to enforce EU regulations, mentioning infringement proceedings as one possibility.

She noted that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s weekend letter to Commission President José Manuel Barroso includes general guarantees, “which is very positive in itself”.

She said the EU does not apply double standards and all member states must observe EU treaties.
