Xpat Event Report: NAWA Budapest Event: Organic Budapest, 9 April
When you get invited to a NAWA event you know you are in for something special, and this time it was no different. I always come away from these events with some useful nuggets of information, which broadens my horizons. This time I discovered all things organic in Budapest, presented by Matthew Hayes, a teacher at St. Istvan Agricultural University and long-time Budapest resident, who is helping to develop several aspects of the expanding bio market in Hungary.

So what is “organic”? It is not an entirely new phenomenon, it has been around for centuries, but it is just now that we started paying more attention to it, as we do so to the rest of the planet.

“Organic” is giving maximum life to the soil, with nothing added, and in doing so we gain the best from the land. What Matthew Hayes preaches, he also practices at a small farm just outside Budapest.

The audience were treated to some of his ‘freshly picked in the morning’ salads, which went down very well, even at 10.30 am.

This certainly wet the appetite and I could not resist buying some of the homemade pesto aptly named “Budapesto”, which I would be having later on. I just need a drop of organic wine and the day will be complete.
