Budapest Mayor Aims To Shut Down Asian Market
Eighth District Fidesz mayor Máté Kocsis and Budapest police chief Tamás Tóth yesterday called on owner state asset manager MNV and state railway company MÁV to cancel the rental contract of the Józsefvárosi market, due to a recent rise in crime there. Kocsis said the Négy Tigris Piac (Four Tigers Market) costs the state Ft 15 billion in lost tax revenue, according to estimates.

Tóth told reporters that the 200 crimes uncovered in the past six months are just a fraction of what happened at the market.

He said the mostly Asian traders settle their differences “in house”, and revenge is frequent amongst them.
