Hungary's PM Orbán Rules Out Euro In Next Decade
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán yesterday excluded the possibility of Hungary adopting the euro in the next decade, saying Hungary would not be ready for such a move until its per capita GDP reaches 90% of the eurozone average.

Making the comment in reply to a question after he delivered a speech at the annual meeting of Hungarian ambassadors abroad at the Foreign Ministry, he said this is not likely in the next decade.

Orbán stressed that a successful eurozone is in Hungary’s interest, as the country’s economy is bound by many threads to the eurozone.

However, he said there would be no economic growth in the EU if Central Europe was not part of the EU.

Regarding a free trade agreement to be concluded by the EU and the US, Orbán said a commission has been formed to ascertain whether such an agreement would affect sectors of the Hungarian economy.
