Parliament on Monday abolished the time limit ­ until now four years ­ on the duration of pre-trial detention for those accused of crimes punishable by prison terms of at least 15 years. Parliament passed the amendment after waiving the House rules to permit a quick vote on the question. Fidesz argued that a man accused of physical assault and brutal murders would be released from custody into house arrest on November 22 without the amendment.
