Hungarian Parliament Abolishes Limits On Custody
- 13 Nov 2013 8:00 AM
Parliament on Monday abolished the time limit until now four years on the duration of pre-trial detention for those accused of crimes punishable by prison terms of at least 15 years. Parliament passed the amendment after waiving the House rules to permit a quick vote on the question. Fidesz argued that a man accused of physical assault and brutal murders would be released from custody into house arrest on November 22 without the amendment.
Dialogue for Hungary co-president Tímea Szabó said the Fidesz proposal “would make a Guantánamo out of Hungary”.
