Hungary’s Ruling Party Fidesz Maintains Stable Lead In Poll
Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party maintained its stable lead over its main rival Socialists but the gap between them somewhat narrowed in November, a poll by Medián published in business weekly HVG shows.

Among voters with a party preference – 44% of the sample -- support for Fidesz declined from 52% in October to 48% this month while the Socialists were backed by 21%, the same as a month ago. Meanwhile, support for the radical nationalist Jobbik edged up from 13% to 16%. Ex- PM Gordon Bajnai’s E14-PM electoral alliance had 6% (down from 7 %), the green LMP party 3% (up from 2 %) and ex-premier Ferenc Gyurcsány’s Democratic Coalition 6% (up from 4%).

Although E14-PM’s backing has been declining for several months, Bajnai’s personal rating increased from 32% in October to 37% by November. The pollster reported a slight rise in the proportion of decided voters declaring their certainty to vote in next year’s general election, from 51 to 52 %. The proportion of voters saying they did not support any political party declined from 30 to 29 %, the lowest figure in three years.
