Hungary's Fidesz Rules Out Inquiry Into NAV Allegation
Parliament does not have a legal right to set up a committee to investigate claims that the tax authority is allowing preferred companies to evade VAT payments, Fidesz MP Gergely Gulyás told reporters on Wednesday.

He said parliamentary investigative committees may not be formed to look into a question in which criminal or misdemeanour proceedings are under way.

The Socialist Party accused Gulyás of lying, and said no House rule prohibits such an investigation.

In addition, the party said, no criminal proceedings are under way against the Tax and Customs Office (NAV) based on allegations by former tax official András Horváth.
