Hungary’s LMP Concerned Over New House Rules Proposal
A proposal for new parliamentary house rules submitted by the ruling parties raise cause for concern on several grounds, LMP co-chairman András Schiffer said. Schiffer said parliament’s transparency, as well as some new procedural rules, appear prone to “manipulation by certain economic pressure groups” and could influence legislation. He criticised proposed rules, and said that LMP would not support the current version of the proposal.

László Kövér, the speaker of parliament, told MTI on Saturday that the work of Hungary’s new, smaller parliament to be formed after the general election in 2014 under new house rules would be “more reasonable and predictable” with “less time wasted on unnecessary disputes”.

The number of lawmakers will be reduced to 199 from 386. The ruling parties plan to pass new house rules next February.
