Invitation: Duna Art Ensemble: Magyar Anzix, Festival Theatre Budapest, 30 December
One of the essential questions of our relationship with the world is the nature of our freedom, which is perhaps the most important determinant of our social dependence or independence, indeed of our very identity. In this performance by the Duna Art Ensemble, two impressions or images appear of two worlds very far apart from each other, taking this fundamental theme as a starting point.

Where freedom is the order of things, I always sense the infinite. (Attila József)

The first dance scene evokes the “idyllic” vision of freedom of a rustic existence in tune with nature, through the authentic folk dances and musical traditions that have formed and crystallized over centuries in the spiritual consciousness of the Hungarian people of the Carpathian Basin.

The second part of the performance visualizes the complex notion of freedom inherent in an urban existence, with the aid of a distinctive language originating in Hungarian peasant culture but built on contemporary folk dance of a more modern outlook that incorporates the sounds of world music.
